Walk Now for Autism Speaks promotions to begin soon
Raisin Rack announced in June that our stores will be a sponsor for
Walk Now for Autism Speaks for the second straight year and now we're
gearing up our fund-raising efforts to support this worthy cause.
Autism Speaks puzzle pieces should be available soon at the checkout
registers. The pieces will be $1 each and all proceeds go to the Walk.
Other specials promotions are in the works and will be announced in the
coming weeks. Information will be available at www.raisinrack.com,
through our emails and social media sites, and in the stores.
Walk Now for Autism Speaks is Sunday, Sept. 26, in Cleveland and
Sunday, Oct. 10, in Columbus. Raisin Rack's management and staff are
looking forward again this year to a healthy partnership with these
great events. For more information about autism or the walks, visit walknowforautismspeaks.org.
Search for Raisin Rack with your electronic device
Raisin Rack is a favorite place on Google. Our store is one of less than 1
percent of all U.S. businesses to receive that distinction. Google's
favorite places are measured by how many times a business
listing was found and clicked on for more information. You'll find a
sticker with a special bar code on the front of the Westerville store
that customers with cameras or smartphones may scan to read about Raisin
Rack. Check it out.
Protect yourself while having fun in the sun
Today,
people are more conscious about the effects of the sun on their skin,
particularly during the hot summer months. Using sunscreen is vitally
important to protect the skin from damage, but it can be confusing to
know which sunscreen to choose, when to use it and how to apply it
properly. Taking a few moments to read about the sun and sunscreen will
start you on the right path to finding and using a product that works
for you and your family.
The sun helps the human body produce Vitamin D, but scientists have
suggested that the average person needs only 20 minutes of sun exposure
per day to get their daily allotted Vitamin D. If you are going to be
in the sun for a long period, it is important that you consider putting
on sunscreen.
When to Apply Sunscreen
• Apply sunscreen approximately 30 minutes before being in the sun
(for best results) so that it can be absorbed by the skin and less
likely to wash off when you perspire • Remember to reapply sunscreen while swimming or during strenuous exercise every two hours • Apply sunscreen often throughout the day if you work outdoors, and wear a hat and protective clothing
How To Apply Sunscreen • Shake well before use to mix particles that might be clumped up in the container • Be sure to apply enough sunscreen. As a rule of thumb, use an ounce (a handful) to cover the entire body • Use on all parts of the skin exposed to the sun, including the ears, back, shoulders and the back of the knees and legs • Apply thickly and thoroughly • Be careful when applying sunscreen around the eyes
Labeling on sunscreens often states that the product protects against
UVA and UVB rays. It is important to know the difference between the
two. Consider UVB the “good guy.” UVB helps skin produce Vitamin D,
which assists the body in maintaining a healthy immune system. UVB
waves are lower in the morning and evening and higher during midday.
UVA is considered the “bad guy” because it penetrates deeper into the
skin and causes more free radical damage. UVA rays are constant
throughout the day and at any time of year regardless of whether the
sun is visible. Look for a natural sunscreen that protects the skin
from UVB and UVA and contains a titanium dioxide/zinc combination,
which is known to reflect both kinds of rays while providing a healthy
tan. Also make sure that the sunscreen is at least an SPF 15 to SPF 50.
Always do research and ask a doctor about sunscreens and what is
recommended for a particular skin type. This information and other
recommendations are available at
