Iatrogenic methemoglobinemia

Methemoglobinemia brought about deliberately by a therapy to induce it, usually with amyl nitrate, as an interim state that prevents more ominous hemoglobinopathies, particularly in cases of cyanide poisoning, and may allow rescue of the patient in a multistep therapeutic process.
